Let me start by saying I made a pretty conscious decision not to devote my time or energy to cutting through the algorithm noise on social media. I simply don’t have that kind of time or interest. Much of my work as designer, activist, and organizer is building community outside social media, through in-person events, collaboration, online events, one-on-one connections, word of mouth, and more.
Because in my professional career I help clients build their own platforms, a lot of times with social media, I have little interest in doing social media for myself. I’d rather spend that time engaging with other things in my life: touching grass, drawing, playing TTRPGs, etc.
I was able to build my Social Justice Design Course platform because clients loved my work and remembered me. So when someone they knew was interest in building tools that would elevate their designs with a social justice framing, they recommended my course! That is way I (emphasis on I) was able to support hundreds of designers.
If a path doesn’t fit your needs, don’t feel pressured to do it because everyone else is! Now… to the post!
